@[Shelby] did some writing on the plane and worked through a second daft this morning. Sharing here before pushing to github so you have the chance to vet first. Specifically I want to make sure: 1. You're happy with the credits. Ensure I haven't left anyone out. 2. "First XCOPY donated" claim is quoted as fact. (I'm not aware of any other competing donations, but want to be sure). MAX PAIN #4188/7394 *A community-funded acquisition for the 6529 Network Museum* The temptation, even now, is to approach MAX PAIN wrong. To see a mass drop. A meme that got lucky. An open edition whose only lasting job was to feed a later burn. Floor talk. Reward precursor. One more saturated face from the 2021–2022 cycle, already metabolised into timeline wallpaper… That perception is not only incomplete. It inverts what the work actually did. MAX PAIN was never simply about the image. It was about what happened to the image. And (less obviously / more importantly) about what circulation asked of the people who carried it. --- ## Looking Look at it properly. Cyan, black, acid pink. A head that will not settle into portraiture. Helmeted and masked and exposed at once… features that slip, lines that buckle, a field that feels mid-failure rather than mid-composition. The face is under pressure. Not theatrical pressure. Administrative pressure. The kind that arrives as overload rather than as event. Casual looking will call this “glitch.” Sustained looking refuses that comfort. Glitch implies a clean image beneath, corrupted after the fact. MAX PAIN does not read that way. The distortion is not applied decoration sitting on a stable self. It is closer to a continuous diagnostic signal: a visual hum of volatility, doom, overload, corruption, recursive media consumption. The figure persists through interference. It does not resolve. It does not ask to be soothed into legibility. The title does not simply describe the image. It performs it. In options markets, “max pain” names the price at which the largest number of contracts expire worthless… the point of maximum collective loss. In XCOPY’s hands the phrase becomes atmosphere and image at once. Financial pressure rendered as visual compression. An overloaded face. A palette synthetic and bruised. A looping digital body that never quite finds rest. You can treat that as metaphor. Or you can treat it as operating system. The second reading is harder. It is also the one that survives contact with how the work actually lived. --- ## Expansion To understand MAX PAIN, you have to refuse the temptation to collapse it into its afterlives. Released 24 March 2022 as part of *MAX PAIN AND FRENS*, the work arrived as a mass distribution event… expansion at cycle scale. It pushed XCOPY outward: across wallets, across timelines, across feeds, across social identity. It was reproduced endlessly… posted, quoted, reposted, compressed, screenshot, memed, flattened into profile pictures. The image circulated so aggressively that circulation itself became part of the meaning. MAX PAIN became less like a rare artwork and more like a symbolic unit of crypto culture… a denomination. A form of common currency denominated in XCOPY’s register. Not because the market said so. Because the network used it that way. Recognition without rarity. Presence without the old scarcity theatre. A shared visual unit that could move through a culture already fluent in compression. That distinction sounds subtle. It is not. What matters is not that thousands of people owned a token. It is that the edition made XCOPY’s register available as ambient cultural infrastructure. The work did not merely depict network pressure. It entered the pressure system and became one of its units of exchange. Later, XCOPY would reverse the process. If MAX PAIN was expansion, DAMAGE CONTROL was contraction… burning the distributed symbol inward into compressed residue, irreversible commitment, earned scarcity. That reversal matters. It does not make MAX PAIN a mere precursor. Contraction only has force because expansion happened first. The denomination had to exist before anyone could choose to destroy it. This essay is about the expansion event. About the edition that made circulation the condition of the work’s meaning. About what it means, years later, for a community to place one specific instance of that denomination into shared custody. --- ## Open Edition / No Rights Reserved The format is not incidental. It is structural. MAX PAIN was released as a large open edition. That choice complicates the inherited opposition between scarcity and significance. Rather than reserve the work’s force for a tiny owner class, the edition made it possible for thousands of collectors to share a common image. Its cultural life is therefore inseparable from the communities that carry it: owners, viewers, remixers, and the networks in which it is repeated. XCOPY releases the work under CC0. The official work page labels it “No rights reserved.” The rights notice is blunt: works can be used, remixed, reproduced, exhibited, and built upon without permission, while independent projects must not imply affiliation or endorsement. That dedication is not a soft licensing footnote. It is part of the work’s stated condition. CC0 refuses the usual consolation of control. Anonymity refuses the usual consolation of biography. If we knew the man, we could blame the mood… Biography would become consolation. XCOPY withholds that exit. The image is available to move, mutate, and acquire new contexts without seeking a permission that would re-centre the artist as gate. Circulation is not an accident of online culture. It is authorised at the root. Canonisation loves closure. XCOPY refuses it. An open edition under CC0 is not the opposite of seriousness. It is a different seriousness: one that accepts contamination, recursion, drift… and still insists the object remains specific enough to matter when one token, among thousands, is chosen for public stewardship. #4188/7394 is one instance of that system. Not the system itself. A particular residue of it. --- ## The Wave The 6529 Network Museum’s relationship to this token begins as a collective act, not a curatorial announcement. Shelby organised a proposal through the Museum Wave process. Community members register participation through Total Days Held (TDH). The drop (`87e1fc3a-deef-4d1d-bf36-b2a44507f17b`) was approved around 27 August 2026: 25 voters, roughly 97.3 million TDH against a 69 million threshold. Qualifying affirmative voters committed to equal shares. The proposal provided no individual or fractional ownership interest. That clause is doing conceptual work. This was not a pooled asset to be divided among its backers. It was not fractionalisation theatre. It was an irreversible commitment structured as equal contribution toward a work held for the Museum. The market will be tempted to read the Wave mechanically: TDH threshold met, call sent, ETH collected, token bought. That is a functional description of what happened. It is not an account of what the process meant. What the process meant is closer to the language DAMAGE CONTROL later made explicit about collectors: they are not merely investors or fans. They are a kind of life support system… caretaking infrastructure for meaning the art itself does not promise. Persistence is the point. Not yield. Not alpha. Conviction under the anxiety of erasure. Twenty-five people agreed to fund a purchase they would not own. That is not fan service. It is a structural ask. --- ## Chronology The chain keeps a colder record. Object identity is public and specific: XCOPY, *MAX PAIN #4188/7394*, 2022; Ethereum ERC-721; contract `0xd1169e5349d1cb9941f3dcba135c8a4b9eacfdde`; token `171000104188`. On 2 September 2026 the token was purchased for approximately 0.459 ETH by the acquisition wallet `0xE84576BD68882e037D8e4df484ad9A15e2b855bc`. Later the same day, that wallet transferred the token to `networkmuseum.6529.eth` (`0xbECfa2bA5a782D11E1a0e821E8F2e30b6684178c`). The call had been 0.021 ETH × 25. After purchase, a residual of approximately 0.0685 ETH remained. On 14 September 2026 that residual was sent from the acquisition wallet to the Museum wallet, designated for future XCOPY purchases. Purchase. Same-day custody transfer. Residual returned to the institution for further work in the same register. Three public acts. No mystique required. Shelby has publicly described the outcome as the first XCOPY donated to the Museum. The on-chain record is a purchase followed by transfer, not a gift instrument. Whether this is the Museum’s first XCOPY in any formal sense is a claim for maintainers and wallet history to settle, not for this essay to baptise. What can be said without consolation language is simpler: a community-funded purchase, organised by Shelby, executed on-chain, and moved into Museum custody. Custody is not accession. Receipt is not closure. The repository’s own discipline insists on that distinction, and the distinction is worth keeping. Institutions love the ribbon. The chain loves the timestamp. Between them sits the unfinished work of stewardship. --- ## What It Asked of the Twenty-Five This is where the acquisition requires its accounting. Equal share sounds fair. It is also demanding. Each affirmative voter committed the same ETH. No prestige multiplier. No larger cheque buying a louder credit. No fractional claim left behind as a souvenir of participation. The ask was not “own a piece of an XCOPY.” The ask was: destroy the ordinary collector fantasy of possession in favour of a work held in common. That required conviction most acquisition stories do not demand. It required the group to metabolise ownership itself… to fold the private claim inward… to accept that the value was not in holding the artefact but in what the artefact could become under shared caretaking. The market will still try to price the story. Floor comparisons. Edition maths. “Undervalued gem” chatter. Fine. That framing misses the internal architecture. What is less obvious (and what institutional language has been slow to name) is that community-funded museum custody can be a caretaking technology under erasure anxiety. Preservation is always an act of hope… even when the art offers none. MAX PAIN offers ambient pressure, not redemption. An open edition offers circulation, not scarcity theatre. CC0 offers permission, not endorsement. The Wave offered irreversible commitment without residual ownership. Put those together and you do not get a triumph narrative. You get a diagnostic of what a network culture can still choose to do with an image that already escaped it. The twenty-five are not a donor wall in the old sense. They are infrastructure. Temporary life support for one token’s passage into a public wallet. Their names matter because the process asked something of them, and because the Museum’s documentation should not launder collective labour into anonymous institutional voice. **Organizer:** Shelby (@ShelbyCollects) **Community acquisition group (25):** Shelby (@ShelbyCollects), Ruskin (@ruskin1819), johndoe8891 (@Johndoe8891), MadaCollects (@MadaCollects), Thor (@Punk8868), DGMD (@DGMD22), david (@punk8164), gpebbles, EzMonet (@ezmonet_momonet), RegularDad (@aRegularDad), punk6529 (@punk6529), Conviction (@ArtofConviction), chrisroc (@ChrizRoc), Cuttle (@0xCuttlefish), Tharwin (@Tharwiin), SunRunner (@eksponensiell), AEZY (@eitzisart), pinkapewife (@pinkapewife), arsonic (@Ars0nic), HasanGoktepe (@hasangoktepe3d), meysvm (@Meysvm), calikauai (@Calikauai_eth), hittman (@hittman_), Voojdab (@Voojdab), Benji (@8888Benji). --- ## Without Consolation There is a temptation to end here with accession language. Permanent collection. Masterpiece welcomed. First XCOPY secured. The ribbon. Refuse it. What happened is more precise and less consoling. An expansion-era denomination of XCOPY’s register… already compressed by years of circulation… was collectively funded, purchased, and transferred into Museum custody. The image remains volatile: loud, stressed, difficult to resolve. The rights remain open. The edition remains large. The face remains under pressure. Nothing about public custody softens that. If this acquisition succeeds, it will not resolve the tension between circulation and caretaking. It will leave it humming between wallet and feed, between open edition and singular token, between a culture that metabolises images at machine speed and a museum trying to keep one instance from disappearing into the ambient. Not ownership. Irreversible commitment. Not consolation. MAX PAIN.

@[Shelby] , I was thinking about MAX PAIN today and had a little idea. Maybe, so the whole thing doesn’t get forgotten too quickly, you could allocate some REP to everyone who participated, since you were the one who managed the proposal. Totally up to you ofc, just thought it could be a nice way to recognize everyone who was part of it! ( and ofc Network provenance )
-
Hello mate, nice idea! Maybe we can use a tag that can be used for all Musuem contributors going forward?
-
Yeah, that's a good idea too and if it's carried out by the network itself, that'd be interesting too! But what I meant was specifically this proposal for MAX PAIN

gm Guys ☕ MAX PAIN has been purchased and sent to the 6529 Network Museum Wallet. A big thank you to everyone involved. We are still waiting on three outstanding contributions from meysvm, Conviction and punk6529. I will hold off on announcing anything on X until then. We'll have 0.063 left in the wallet: 1) Hold the eth and use for future XCOPY Museum purchase 2) Send the eth to XCOPY has a "Royalty Fee" 3) any other ideas welcome? Separately @[punk6529] for the write up section do we want to ask @[SonOfLasG] or @[maxand98] to do a short blurb on MAX PAIN, both are excellent writers. We could reward with some Rep. @[Ruskin] @[johndoe8891] @[MadaCollects] @[Thor] @[DGMD] @[david] @[gpebbles] @[EzMonet] @[RegularDad] @[punk6529] @[Conviction] @[chrisroc] @[Cuttle] @[Tharwin] @[SunRunner] @[AEZY] @[pinkapewife] @[arsonic] @[HasanGoktepe] @[meysvm] @[calikauai] @[hittman] @[Voojdab] @[Benji]

How about sending the ETH to the museum?
-
i think perhaps everyone who contributed can vote.. i like 3rd idea of send to museum for any future purchases.. maybe we give it another day or so to see if any other good ides come up.. then we can vote on what to do with the funds?
-
-
I would LOVE to contribute some writing to this. Super job!
-
I think holding for future purchase is the way to go, but I worry about how accessible the ETH will be once it’s in the museum wallet. Its a multi sig wallet that will be slow to move anythint
-
it should not be difficult; we have 5 signers. you can find them
-
I think the easiest option is going to be send the funds to Museum wallet for future XCOPY purchases.
-
-
-
pay the royalties to X so no leftovers in wallet. complex otherwise

i’d love to submit alec soth’s dog days, bogotá #50 for consideration by the 6529 museum. soth is one of the most celebrated american photographers of his generation and a member of magnum photos. dog days, bogotá is one of his most personal bodies of work, created while he and his wife were in colombia during the adoption process of their daughter. the project later became his genesis nft collection through assembly. i already own #50 and would be happy to offer it to the museum for acquisition if it is selected through the voting process. would you recommend that i put it up for proposal?
-
Gm mate, my photography knowledge is very limited. But if you put a good proposal together for why it should join the Museum and its importance then the network can decide.

very very cool @[Shelby]. since i’m new to this, i have a question…

# Proposed gift: Sebastião Salgado, *Amazônia* Six photographs move from the forest floor to the mountain and river systems above it, then return to two Indigenous communities whose lives cannot be separated from this land. Together they offer a concentrated view of Sebastião Salgado's last major project and of the questions carried by his documentary photography. Sebastião Salgado made the photographs for *Amazônia*. punk6529 offers tokens `226`, `1117`, `2059`, `2216`, `2768`, and `4697` as one non-severable group under the proposed Museum title *Amazônia: Forest, Water, and Community*. The proposed acquisition is an unrestricted gift at no cost to the Museum. ## Resolution **Should the 6529 Network Museum select exactly tokens `226`, `1117`, `2059`, `2216`, `2768`, and `4697` from Ethereum contract `0xf1f036cebb4b64f138e4f57754edbceb64fb80fc`, presented as the non-severable group *Amazônia: Forest, Water, and Community*, as a proposed gift for the permanent Collection?** If the proposal clears the applicable TDH threshold, the exact six-work group is selected. Donor authority, legal title, gift terms, rights, technical review, transfer, custody receipt, condition, preservation, formal acceptance, and accession will follow. If a required check fails, the gift will not be accepted. If the proposal does not clear the threshold, it closes without selection and has no effect on the Collection. It would not exclude another Salgado work or another group from *Amazônia* from future consideration. # Sebastião and Lélia Wanick Salgado Sebastião Salgado (1944–2025) trained as an economist before becoming a photographer in 1973. He worked with Sygma and Gamma, joined Magnum Photos in 1979, and remained with the cooperative until 1994. His long projects include *Workers*, *Migrations*, *Genesis*, and *Amazônia*. Each was built through repeated travel, extended observation, books, and exhibitions over periods far longer than the daily news cycle. Salgado's black-and-white photographs are immediately recognizable. Light organizes bodies, weather, ground, and distance into large tonal structures; individual events often appear within a much wider account of labor, displacement, ecology, or collective life. This formal ambition made his work widely influential and persistently debated. Its beauty can hold attention for subjects that viewers might otherwise evade. It can also turn hardship or Indigenous life into an image whose grandeur exceeds the specificity of the people represented. Both effects belong to a responsible reading of the work. Lélia Wanick Salgado is essential to the public form of these projects. She edited and designed the books, conceived and curated the exhibitions, and co-founded Amazonas Images with Sebastião. She curated *Amazônia* as an installation of more than two hundred photographs and organized its movement between landscape, rivers, mountains, and communities. The Museum should credit the photographs to Sebastião Salgado and the project's editorial and exhibition form to Lélia Wanick Salgado. The Salgados also founded Instituto Terra, which restored part of a degraded family farm in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. That environmental work places *Amazônia* within a sustained practice of land restoration, publishing, and public advocacy. The photographs still require independent assessment. Sources: [TASCHEN](https://www.taschen.com/en/books/photography/42384/), [ICP](https://www.icp.org/content/2022), [MAXXI](https://www.maxxi.art/en/events/sebastiao-salgado/), and [Praemium Imperiale](https://www.praemiumimperiale.org/en/laureate/salgado/). # *Amazônia*: from photographic project to tokenized edition Salgado worked in the Brazilian Amazon over six years. The resulting project looks at forest, water, weather, mountains, and the lives of Indigenous communities. Lélia Wanick Salgado edited and designed the 528-page TASCHEN book, first published in 2021, and curated the touring exhibition. UNESCO's account of the project states that permission was obtained before visits to Indigenous territories and that the team observed quarantine measures to protect communities from disease. In 2022 Sotheby's presented *Sebastião Salgado, Amazônia* as a blind-mint edition of 5,000 ERC-721 tokens. The six proposed works come from that edition. Their metadata and high-resolution JPEG files are currently served from Arweave. The token fixes edition identity and transfer history. The photograph, caption, copyright, exhibition history, and preservation record remain distinct parts of each Museum object. The proposed group follows a visual and intellectual sequence. Token `226` places the viewer inside a dense forest. Token `1117` gives the Imeri range the scale of a geological wall. Tokens `2059` and `2768` look from the air, first through rain and cloud, then along a river's winding course. Token `2216` is a concentrated portrait from the Maronal village. Token `4697` opens into collective movement in the Nova Esperança community. The two community images make human history integral to the account of land and water. This is a Museum-formed selection from a much larger edition. It carries no claim of artist designation or completeness. Its precise claim is that six photographs can show how *Amazônia* moves among scale, weather, water, portraiture, and community. Sources: [Sotheby's digital catalogue](https://www.sothebys.com/en/digital-catalogues/sebastiao-salgado), [MAXXI](https://www.maxxi.art/en/events/sebastiao-salgado/), [UNESCO](https://www.unesco.org/en/articles/amazonia-exhibition-salgado-and-jarre-unesco), and [TASCHEN](https://www.taschen.com/en/books/photography/42384/). # Six photographs ## Forest and mountain **Token `226`: forest, Jaú River and Jaú National Park, Amazonas, 2019.** Pale trunks rise through palms, vines, and shadow. The frame has no single center. Near and distant growth occupy the same shallow wall, making density the photograph's subject. **Token `1117`: Imeri mountain range, Amazonas, 2018.** A dark tableland rises above a bright band of forest. Cloud and rock divide the panoramic frame into long horizontal masses. The photograph replaces the common image of the Amazon as an undifferentiated lowland with a specific and imposing geology. ## Weather and water **Token `2059`: aerial view, Roraima, 2018.** Rain falls in pale columns from a low ceiling of cloud. Forest ridges recede beneath it. From this altitude, weather becomes a visible system acting across the land. **Token `2768`: aerial view, Roraima, 2018.** A bright river doubles back through the forest in narrow loops. The high viewpoint makes the water legible as a structure while the edge of every bend returns attention to the canopy it cuts and sustains. # Portrait and community **Token `2216`: Village of Maronal, Valley of Javari Indigenous Territory, Amazonas, 2018.** A young Marubo person faces the camera against a dark field. Feathers, facial painting, beadwork, and direct eye contact give the portrait its formal concentration. The image records an encounter with an individual; the metadata places that encounter within a community of more than two thousand people and within Salgado's earlier work on disease in the region. **Token `4697`: Nova Esperança community, Rio Gregório Yawanawá Indigenous Territory, Acre, 2016.** A figure in a feathered headdress occupies the near ground while a line of people moves away along a forest path. The picture's depth joins individual presence to collective action. Its metadata describes the Yawanawá community's recovery of language, ceremony, and political autonomy after decades of pressure from rubber interests and missionaries. These photographs require exact captions and careful display. The established project record includes permission for visits to Indigenous territories, and the token metadata supplies community and location context. The Museum should preserve that context beside the images, seek any image-specific restrictions, and avoid presenting either community as outside history or as a symbol of an untouched Amazon. ## What each work contributes | Work | Function within the group | | --- | --- | | `226` | immersion in the forest's density | | `1117` | geological scale and distance | | `2059` | atmosphere, rain, and climate | | `2768` | water as a spatial system | | `2216` | the ethical and formal pressure of direct portraiture | | `4697` | community, movement, and cultural continuity | # The case for selection ## A major photographer through a late, sustained project Salgado shaped the international language of documentary photography across five decades. *Amazônia* brought his mature visual method to a region whose ecology and inhabitants were central to his final years. The six works would give the Collection a substantial first account of that practice. ## A group with internal structure Each photograph has a distinct role. The forest and mountain establish two scales of land; the aerial views show atmosphere and water acting across it; the Marubo and Yawanawá photographs place human presence within the same geography. The sequence supports comparison without pretending to summarize a 5,000-token edition. ## A bridge between photographic and blockchain histories The works belong to a project established through books and international exhibitions, then released as authenticated tokenized photographs. They allow the Museum to study how photographic authorship, captions, edition identity, rights, provenance, and preservation change when a major documentary archive is distributed on Ethereum. ## Strong public and scholarly use The group can support close-looking displays, an artist profile, a project essay, Indigenous-representation research, photography and tokenization studies, and a complete public provenance record. Its high-resolution media and unusually rich metadata provide a strong starting point for that work. ## No acquisition cost to the Museum The donor proposes an unrestricted gift without consideration. Acceptance would still create real obligations for rights review, respectful captioning, technical preservation, storage, scholarship, and continuing care. # The countercase ## Six works cannot represent *Amazônia* The edition contains 5,000 photographs and the exhibition more than two hundred. This selection omits many communities, river systems, and forms of daily life. It could make a vast project appear more complete than it is. ## Salgado's grandeur can overwhelm his subjects Critics have long argued that Salgado's dramatic black-and-white composition turns suffering and political conflict into beautiful spectacle. Debate about *Amazônia* has also focused on whether images of Indigenous people can place living communities in a timeless or romantic past. Tokens `2216` and `4697` bring that question directly into the proposed gift. ## The selection contains two aerial views from Roraima Tokens `2059` and `2768` share category, state, and metadata date code. A different selection might have widened the range with another community or subject. ## Rights remain unresolved The public metadata identifies images and project context but contains no explicit display, reproduction, or preservation licence. Ownership of the tokens does not transfer copyright. A gift without adequate rights could restrict the Museum's ability to display and preserve the works. ## The technical object depends on more than Ethereum The ERC-721 contract is upgradeable. Current token metadata and JPEG media are served from Arweave gateways. The Museum must document contract controls, pointer behavior, file fixity, independent retrieval, and lawful preservation. The token alone does not guarantee permanent access. # Response to the countercase The group should be described precisely as a six-work Museum selection. Its limits belong in the label and catalogue. The criticism of Salgado's beauty is central to the works' study. These six address land, weather, portraiture, and community; their monumentality still shapes how land and people are seen. Tokens `2216` and `4697` should be displayed with exact community context and with scholarship that treats the Marubo and Yawanawá as contemporary political communities. The project's documented permission process is relevant evidence; it does not end the interpretive question. The two aerial views are formally distinct. Token `2059` describes rain and atmospheric scale; token `2768` follows the river as a material system. Their pairing makes the relation between water in the air and water on the ground visible. Rights and technical uncertainty are acceptance gates. The Wave can select the proposed gift while requiring the Museum to resolve intended display and preservation uses, inspect contract and metadata controls, retain verified files, and record any residual limits before formal acceptance. ## Proposed gift terms The final gift instrument should confirm that the gift: 1. comprises exactly the six scheduled tokens as one group; 2. is unconditional, irrevocable once delivered and accepted, and without consideration; 3. carries no permanent-display, naming, promotion, resale, related-acquisition, market-support, or interpretive restriction; 4. gives the donor no continuing control over custody, scholarship, criticism, display, lending, preservation, deaccession, or future Collection decisions; 5. transfers every interest the donor has authority to transfer while making no unsupported claim that token title includes copyright; and 6. authorizes the public donor credit **Gift of punk6529**. ## Final resolution **Should the 6529 Network Museum select exactly tokens `226`, `1117`, `2059`, `2216`, `2768`, and `4697` from Ethereum contract `0xf1f036cebb4b64f138e4f57754edbceb64fb80fc`, presented as the non-severable group *Amazônia: Forest, Water, and Community*, as a proposed gift for the permanent Collection?** If selected, donor authority, legal title, gift terms, rights, technical review, transfer, custody receipt, condition, preservation, formal acceptance, and accession will follow. If a required check fails, the gift will not be accepted. ## Object, rights, and preservation schedule | Token | Current media | Metadata | Rights state | Technical and preservation state | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `226` | JPEG, 3543 × 2362, Arweave | category `FOREST`; Amazonas; date code `19-03`; Jaú River; Jaú National Park | copyright/display licence not stated in token metadata | owner, approval, URI, metadata, media, size, and SHA-256 observed; independent retained package pending | | `1117` | JPEG, 3543 × 2362, Arweave | category `MOUNTAINS`; Amazonas; date code `18-03`; Imeri mountain range | same | same | | `2059` | JPEG, 3543 × 2362, Arweave | category `AERIAL VIEWS`; Roraima; date code `18-02` | same | same | | `2216` | JPEG, 3543 × 5315, Arweave | category `MARUBO`; Amazonas; date code `18-01`; Valley of Javari Indigenous Territory; Village of Maronal | same; community/image-specific terms require review | same; caption and ethical-context package pending | | `2768` | JPEG, 3543 × 2362, Arweave | category `AERIAL VIEWS`; Roraima; date code `18-02` | same | same | | `4697` | JPEG, 3543 × 2362, Arweave | category `YAWANAWÁ`; Acre; date code `16-02`; Nova Esperança community, Rio Gregório Yawanawá Indigenous Territory | same; community/image-specific terms require review | same; caption and ethical-context package pending | The preparation package retains byte-exact metadata and media observations. I am VERY supportive of accepting this gift and also I would like to lodge a question on the proposal. ... for some reason I can't see the whole drop on laptap but on the mobile app there is a clear discrepancy between the proposal and the terms: 1. The proposal highlights the tensions with Salgado's work between beauty, romance, suffering and grandeur. The "response to the countercase" states "Tokens 2216 and 4697 should be displayed with exact community context and with scholarship that treats the Marubo and Yawanawa as contemporary political communities" 2. The proposed gift terms, however, SPECIFICALLY carry "no permanent-display ... naming ... restriction" I assume this is meant to imply that accepting the gift does not oblige the Museum to keep these on permanent display or to name them a certain way. My question is whether the donor, if in fact they believe that context is essential to the works, should insist on some display conventions IF the pieces are displayed, beyond "keeping all six together"? Or whether we are satisfied that that clause is more directed to the donor relinquishing rights over the collection and doesn't imply that the Museum will display them without due context. cc: @[punk6529]

no restrictions. it is an answer to a theoretical question that someone could make about those two and the answer to that theoretical question is the museum can contextualize if it wants. in any case, I think the negative case is a reach
