what does staging validated mean
for this flow nothing changes. you just ask your codex to wait for the STAGING_VALIDATED status, do its manual testing and if ok then proceed to scheule for prod train

without an AI behind it all - e.g. without openai key etc

and the issue with taking away this responsibility from the thread that raised the PR

and it has access to the unit tests, to the browser environment, to the AWS CLI

so who does the testing currently in your case? you ask your codex to take something to staging and then ask it to open the browser and test it in staging?
but you no longer have intelligence dealing with E2E testing
which is, in the scheme of things, a more mechanical issue
you solve one problem which is conflicting changes
it is going to reduce performance IMHO
why i planned the openai thing is that the train could resolve easier merge conflicts itself and diagnose the offenders if something breaks. but i want to prove that the train without this fancy layers is stable before i consider that again

let's say there are 5 different PRs from 5 different long threads and they have now been deployed to staging
which AI knows (and how does it know) if the behavior on staging is the desired behavior?
does not really answer my question - who is testing staging
1. your thread does the development, whatever local testing you see fit, created a pr, resolves all the issues and uses an API to register your branch and its HEAD SHA to train for staging.
2. other people may in parallel have similar threads
3. theres a loop that runs once a minute and sees if theres something registered for staging
4. if there is something registered and there is no active ongoing train to staging then it assembles all the registered PRs to one temporary branch, merges it to 1a-staging, deploys and runs e2e tests
5. if there is an active train to staging already then it waits until it finishes and then does (4)
6. if all that passes then the status is STAGING_VALIDATED. your codex now has to tell the train to take your pr to prod.
7. release train takes this info and verifies if what you requested to take to prod is STAGING_VALIDATED and if it is then it starts another train to take it to merge it to main and take it to prod
8. Prod train works the same way as staging train. Multiple developments can be in one train etc.. Prod train has a different queue from staging train (ie they can run in parallel)

ok so how does this work - there is a thread that is doing X (whatever X is) and has all the context for X and raises PR, iterates with the bots, merges, now it goes to staging and that thread in "my" method would be responsible for testing its work, seeing if it has done what it was supposed to do and then fixing it if needed.
And obviously this thread has all the context of the actual goals.
How does that happen now
the ordering thing is what caused a deadlock at the moment. A required B and B required A. This shouldn't have gone through and codex is working on a fix as we speak

hehe this is what I worry will get on my nerves most. Coming from where everything is online, self service, works relatively fast with government etc. Italy isnt exactly famous for that...😁
